Software Development Manager
Our new Software Development Manager position is a critical role in the company, working with Product and Project Managers ensuring Activator remains the class leader.

Our products are exclusively designed in-house, designed to the most stringent industrial standards for long-life in harsh environments by our R&D team in Dublin, this includes hardware, the operating system, and the mechanical design.
Our Software Applications Engineering team is looking for a passionate, self-motivated individual to join our team of professionals to ensure our software applications go beyond a range of industry benchmarks worldwide. You will be a key part of the Activator Platform Team - a global team is responsible for both new features as well as ongoing maintenance. This specific role is primarily to be part of the code development team as well as to have team management ownership.

The Software Development Manager is a critical role in the company, working with Product and Project Managers ensuring Activator remains the class leader and executes a predictable flow of software release plans such that our sales teams and customers can have the utmost confidence in product availability across the globe. They will be responsible for the scope, risks, dependencies, budgeting, and validation test planning as well as the strategic roadmap for Activator.
Role & Responsibilities:
Based on-site in Dublin office, you will be one of a team of very senior and experienced engineers responsible for a range of development tasks such as writing code, unit testing and quality assurance – and additionally responsible for team management. Working in an agile environment, you will join an ambitious development team creating new products, as well as maintaining and extending existing offerings.
As a manager of the Software Applications Team, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. While a Player/Manager – as manager you will lead the team to build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture. You will be required to interact with other functional peer group managers and with senior management on team status and technical roadmap.
You will possess a deep understanding of the advantages offered by various Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, including SCRUM, Lean, LeSS, eXtreme programming, as well as other standards proposed by Agile Alliance and PMI. You will manage and be part of a team, expanding the existing team with new hires, training & mentoring the new hires and load balancing duties.
The role will include the preparation of requirements specifications, designs and test schedules, the design and implementation of .NET Solutions, Windows Services, Web Applications, Database Applications, Systems Integration, Test application, Troubleshooting and staying up to date with technology evolution.
Qualifications/Skills
- B.S. or above, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent degree.
- 10+ years industry experience, Experience of managing a team preferable.
- Ability to implement high-quality, reliable, and maintainable code.
- Proficient in C#, .NET Framework, Windows Forms, .NET, SQL, and Web APIs.
- Experience with GitLab, SignalR, TDD, DevOps, CI/CD.
- Knowledgeable in MVC, Blazor, and JavaScript.
- Ability to work to tight project timelines and should be able to plan, organise, and execute multiple concurrent tasks. Capable of working independently.
- Understanding of software and system design patterns.
- Skilled in debugging analysis and diagnostics.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Focus on product and customer needs.
- Strong background in Networking libraries and related technologies.
- Experience with API design, code development, and debugging in multi-platform environments.
- Strong on data structures, algorithms, performance tuning, threading and concurrency.
- Strong on quality, including developing thorough tests for new or changed code.
- Familiarity with test automation tools and practices (unit and system level automation).
Good understanding of and experience with:
- .NET, Async Programming, Design Patterns, SOLID
- Proficiency in relational databases like SQL Server or Oracle SQL
- Ability to operate in a rapidly changing environment.
- Experience in Agile development environments
- Knowledge of automated CI/CD pipelines is essential.
Advantageous would-be communications technology experience including;
- A basic understanding of technologies incl. DNS, TCP/IP, VLANs, SSH, Routing, etc.
- Knowledge of RF theory and practice, as well as 3GPP Standards and radio architectures including wideband/narrowband receivers, amplifiers, and RF and mixed-signal communications hardware components.
- Experience and a deep understanding of Cellular Modem System performance parameters and their impact to RRM and Demodulation performance.
