Are you our new Technical Project Manager ?

As a Technical Project Manager, you will be responsible for the release scheduling of the next generation of ruggedised routers and making recommendations for continuous improvements in partnership with electrical and hardware engineering team, suppliers and supplier management teams, sales, service teams.

The Technical Project Manager is the key person for ensuring the flow of work along our R&D pipeline, ensuring effective collaboration across the organisation to develop a roadmap, align resources and execute projects to completion. They will be responsible for the scope, risks, dependencies, budgeting, and release planning as they concurrently lead projects.
What You Can Expect to Do
You will work with our product, sales, and R&D teams to establish requirements and schedules for a range of diverse development projects – you will also work with the site leadership team on strategic projects to support our supply chain operations and change management projects. Having (or developing) a high-level knowledge of device capabilities and characteristics along with a basic understanding of the associated manufacturing processes will be important to assist with execution.
Once your project(s) are up to speed you will lead the day-to-day execution as well as long term planning, financial follow up and reporting to your Project Steering Committee. You will interact with team members and stakeholders from many different areas of the company such as: Electronics, Mechanics, Software, Software Test, Purchasing, Suppliers, Production, Production Test, Marketing, Product Management and potentially external Customers or Partners.
You will take a ‘big picture’ of project management/execution, while working at a detailed level across a broad range of project types and engagement approaches - you will influence all stakeholders both internally and externally through all stages of project development to meet planned milestones.
Responsibilities and Tasks
We are looking for someone who is used to working close to R&D teams as well as supply chain functions and has great leadership skills. Someone who enjoys communicating with all functional areas within the company and across Westermo Group companies in areas such as R&D, Operations, Finance, Sales, Product Management, and Services locally and across our group. You will serve as both internal and external evangelist for our roadmap and the certainty of the execution timelines.
You will have proven ability to handle occasional high stress situations in a professional manner while seamlessly handling multiple projects and deal with multiple issues at one time, while providing detailed and timely follow-up between meetings and development stages. You will assume full responsibility for your projects by continuously assessing the progress and adjusting the project plan to ensure that goals are met, while regularly communicating progress.
Leading assigned R&D projects
- Create, own, and manage plan for projects including work package and resource planning.
- Lead, direct and oversee medium to large sized teams using Lean & Agile methodologies.
- Advocate for best practice project management methodologies.
- Liaise with functional managers to compile R&D costs for resource planning, budgeting, and to inform RFI’s / RFQ’s to ensure that the project complies with internal gate processes.
- Coordinate with Product Management to agree scope, deliverables, and schedule.
- Coordinate with technical leads to actively progress projects to agreed milestones.
- Coordinate with supply chain leads to align to capacity/supply side with agreed milestones.
- Establish/ manage routine team meetings to facilitate plan updates, decision-making, problem solving, escalations e.g., resourcing gaps, mitigations vs non-adherence to plan.
- Negotiate trade-offs and motivate others towards common goals and business in mind.
- Escalating issues when they impact timeline, scope, quality, or budget.
- Ensure developments follow our processes, policies, and systems.
Strategic Initiatives
- Take end to end responsibility for the mobilisation, delivery, and benefits of complex strategic and/or transformative projects.
- Influence and negotiate project outcomes, often across multiple functions.
- Prepare and present analysis, insights, and recommendations to assist defined governance forums and senior client stakeholders with decision making.
- Identify and advise on project/programme level decisions that influence significant project direction and escalate decisions that cannot be resolved to the agreed governance forums.
Governance and Continuous Improvement
- Challenge the status quo and permanently strive for outstanding results.
- Maintain budget oversight, manage risks i.e., risk register and mitigations.
- Actively manage internal and external key stakeholders in an international environment,
- Negotiate trade-offs and motivate others towards common goals and business in mind.
- Drive continuous improvements and implement strategic actions in the projects.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and champion them across the organisation.
- Carry out retrospective project reviews to understand lessons learned.
- Ensure change control processes and documentation are in place.
Qualifications
- A strong academic record including a third level degree, preferably in a business or IT related discipline, from a recognised third level institution.
- At least 5 years’ experience working in a project management role delivering complex technical projects or systems integration projects.
- Proven Project Management methodology and skills (ideally with relevant qualifications -, such as PRINCE2®, PMP, PMBOK, SAFe or Diploma Level in Project Management or similar discipline from a recognised third level institution or accreditation body.
- Proven knowledge and experience in development methodologies and managing complex projects in an Agile environment.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically when planning, managing teams and processes.
- Experience with Infrastructure-based projects
Experience
- A good understanding of several of the following areas: electronics development, mechanical design, product validation testing, type testing, electronics production, production testing, embedded software development, HW/SW interaction
- Experience of some of the following: mechanical design of electronics devices, embedded software development design and production of electronics/assemblies designing for test and manufacturing.
- Experience facilitating project team meetings, cross-functional communication and decision making, and ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound judgment, problem solving, and collaboration in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to problems.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional or horizontally aligned teams.
Ideally, you will also have:
- Great presentation skills (working knowledge of MS PowerPoint)
- A passion for excellence and proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- The mindset of a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and a growth mindset
- Strong technical writing skills
- Strong self-motivation and a willingness to work occasional abnormal hours to ensure timely project execution for customers or teams at other sites.
- Fluency in Swedish would be a plus.
